O.k.. Find some time for you. That’s my tip. I could just end there, but what fun would that be? The fact is, I don’t exercise. AT.ALL. Well, sure I chase around 4 children all day, but I don’t think it counts if I only get my blood pressure up
.
I used to love ballet. I used to have incredible balance, stamina, and posture. Not so much anymore, and I fear what I may look like in my 60’s - not a pretty picture!
My 3-year-old is LOVING her ballet class. I took a chance and inquired. I have now joined the ranks of the middle-aged ballerinas (not nearly as glamorous as the teenage ballerina ranks I used to enjoy *sigh*). Thank goodness tu-tu’s aren’t required.
It’s the only exercise I do (so far), and I am absolutely loving it. I am more in tune with my body (especially those muscles I didn’t recall existed), and it is the best way for me to schedule some time just for me. It’s truly me time because I’m not thinking about my kids, the laundry piles, or what I’m going to fix for dinner. I’m simply thinking about standing up straight and trying to keep my arms going where they are supposed to. For a whole glorious hour!
If I don’t schedule something for me to enjoy, I’ll never make time for me. I’m a better mom because I make the time for me. It’s a great gift for me. It’s a great gift for my children to see the importance I place on taking care of myself.
This works for me. Find something YOU love that works for you. While you’re at it, head over to Shannon’s to find lots of great tips at Works For Me Wednesday!

I just posted against “me time”–but you’re winning me over! Sounds fun

Oh that sounds like fun and a great “me” time. I would love to do ballet again but seeing how I cannot even touch my toes anymore ::::shamefull sulk:::: I don’t think I could make it through one class. I think some beginners yoga would be more to my liking.

I think it’s great that you are doing that. It is very important for moms to have Me Time. Just because we have kids doesn’t mean we have to give up who we were before kids. I think it helps to keep the stress levels down if you have something to do just for yourself. Good job.

I totally agree. I’m not a mom yet but a working newly-wed and I already find it hard to really have me-time. You’re so right!

Naturemama- You know what? I can’t touch my toes either, but the stretching feels soooo good, and I know I’m getting some of my balance and flexibility back after only 3 classes! I really encourage you to find a good adult class (even a beginners class), either yoga or ballet, and get you some me time too!
Thanks for stopping by with some encouraging words!
