WFMW - Boredom Busters!

Summer boredom busters . . . well . . . . our favorite is the waterpark. The best part is, I have my mom give us all season passes as a Christmas present - mind you it’s not very exciting to open (unless you’re the one who has to find a home for all the new goodies delivered on Christmas Day), but an awesome gift come the 90o mark!

So plan ahead and ask for waterpark passes so you can splash down all summer when everyone is bored. Read my original waterpark post for tips on how we manage the waterpark with 4 kids, and read on for more summer boredom busters:

1) You just gotta have a Wii - wii love the Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wii Fit! Great during a sudden afternoon thunderstorm or when it’s just too stinkin’ hot. But THIS is the game going on my Christmas list this year!

2) We plant things in the garden - it provides ongoing entertainment (weeding, watering, harvesting, and finding creative ways to keep the critters away from your crops). We’re currently anticipating blueberries . . .

3) I take the badminton set and put it up in the backyard. A little extra physical activity usually ensures good naps!

4) This year we’re heading to the bowling alley more often - they have a great deal during the summer you’ll definitely want to check out!

5) Wash the car - a little extra water play that makes the car look good is a definite win-win in my book! You can even wash the dog (which are known to turn in to automatic sprinklers :-)).

6) We participate in the library summer reading programs - every day during quiet time, I have the two oldest read while the two youngest nap. They record the books they’ve read and turn it in to the library to choose a prize.

Typically, my kids don’t complain to me too much about being bored. I think they know I’ll come up with something for them to do - like organize a bookshelf, scrub the baseboards, file paperwork, de-clutter a closet, or take a nap! blog-signature.JPG

Hit the Ground Running

Hubby and I are trying to go to bed at a reasonable time each night. I haven’t wanted to put that in writing for a SMART Habit Saturday post because then I’ll feel accountable to all of you. Saying it’s something we’ve talked about and flirted with the idea of is a little more non-committal.

Of course, if you go to bed at the same reasonable time each night Read the rest of this entry »

A Second Look at Value

Do you ever feel like your life is bursting at the seams? And, not in a good way . . . that is where my life is right now - literally overflowing in all the wrong places - kids games, clothes (mine and the little people’s), unfinished projects, undone housework, unexpressed emotions, etc. Even my freezer is stuffed to overflowing!

We have so much stuff that we Read the rest of this entry »

Exercise . . . At last

Well, I’ll admit it. I don’t like to put anything in writing that I’m not going to stick to. That means, I don’t put down a new habit unless I ALREADY KNOW I CAN AND WILL DO IT. Call me a cheater if you must, but I prefer “success junkie.”

Once I started taking Read the rest of this entry »

SMART Habit Update

Because I’m working frantically this weekend on the buggy birthday party we’re having tomorrow for my 5-year-old, I’m just giving a quick update on my SMART Habits. I haven’t done that in a while, and I just know you’ve been wondering about my progress  . Read the rest of this entry »

It’s High Enough For Me

Are gas prices high enough for you? They are for me! But I see LOTS of people around town that apparently feel they don’t pay enough at the pumps! They LEAVE.THEIR.SUV.OR.MINIVAN.RUNNING Read the rest of this entry »

It All Runs Together . . .

Wasn’t yesterday just Thursday? How did it suddenly get to be Saturday and I miss doing a book review AND my SMART Saturday post??? I mean, it really hasn’t been a very exciting week, what with the plumbers breaking the water line and irrigation line in an attempt to fix the broken sewer line, the cable company digging up part of the yard and boring a hole under the driveway to run a new cable line to the house, and the critter-gitter company setting up poison stations throughout the attic to add to the lovely “dead” fragrance already pungent in our home. Geeesh!

So, here I am late on Saturday pulling together a two-for-one for you! Aren’t you excited? A SMART habit AND Read the rest of this entry »

Mommy Guilt

I recently listened to a podcast by Motherhood Uncensored on BlogTalk Radio about mommy guilt. As I listened, I found myself wondering if I had anything that I felt guilty about as a mom. During the podcast, there was a lot of talk about feeling guilty about not breastfeeding. Well, I couldn’t really relate there (although I agree there is a lot of pressure to breastfeed), because all 4 of mine latched on just fine and nursed for at least 6 months (baby #4 has the record at 12 months).

After listening to the podcast, I figured that I must do pretty well since I’m not really finding myself feeling guilty about anything. But over the next several days, I found myself Read the rest of this entry »

Jackson Heating & Air actually arrived a little earlier than scheduled this morning to install our new heat pump. They were here about 7:20 am - ON.A.SATURDAY!!! They did such a fabulous job, that I have to give them a little plug!

So, the sales guy is here on Thursday, and my brand spankin’ new Trane XR14 kick-@#! heat pump is installed by 11:30 am SATURDAY morning! How incredible is that???

WFMW - Cottonmouths

WFMW logo Every meal, I found myself “reminding” my children (especially the boys) to wipe their mouths on their napkins and NOT on their sleeves. I began thinking they weren’t forgetting where to wipe their mouths, but they must like hearing my sweet voice remind them :). Or, perhaps, it’s the feel of soft cotton on their mouths, or knowing they are irritating me (and adding another step in the laundry process).

One afternoon, we had company for Sunday lunch (or Sunday “dinnah”as we refer to it here in the south) and used cloth napkins to “dress up” the table a bit (besides, cloth napkins are classier than the plain white paper ones). I noticed the kids Read the rest of this entry »
